Detailed below are the supplies we require and the schedule for fixing the wall of the dojo along with cleaning and painting.

Supplies:

For the Wall:

Need to purchase:

6 sheets of plywood (estimated, should measure and possibly revise)

Screws

Need to borrow:

Screw guns (maybe 3-4)

For Cleaning:

Need to purchase:

Dust Masks

Sponges on sticks (everything is better on a stick)

Cloths

Need to borrow:

Steam cleaner (Dennis?)

Ladders (Skip and Zach)

For Painting:

Need to purchase:

Paint (need to determine how much)

Rollers

Brushes

Masking Tape

Drop cloths (hopefully we can borrow these)

Schedule:

Friday:

Perhaps a special class starting early

After class remove everything from walls and storage and place on ground/mat

Saturday:

Move everything from ground/mat to parking lot

Step 1:

Cleaning crew begins to clean the walls, steam the carpets and drapes, wipe down couches, pine-sol wood, and clean the storage area

Demo crew knocks out the wall

Step 2:

Painting crew begins to paint the walls

Building crew hangs the plywood

Step 3:

Once the plywood is hung and painting is finished everything must be moved back in from the parking lot

In the evening possible second coat if required

Sunday:

Touch ups if necessary

Rehang and store everything

Finish cleaning and perhaps mop the floors

Optional:

This may also be a good time to install the mirror everyone has been talking about

Rather than rehanging the old boards, we can take this opportunity to update and add other boards

What must be done before we can get to work:

We need to figure out how to procure all of the supplies we require (commit to lending, donating, or using dojo funds)

We need to set a date for this to occur

Post questions, comments, suggestions, and possible dates in the accompanying forum post. Lets make this happen!

What exactly is the final plan?  Looks like we are putting plywood up behind the lists to protect the wall but if we are only using approx. 6 sheets then we are covering a relatively small area.  Just wondering.  Someone let me know.

The plan is to reinforce the wall behind the lists, 6 sheets was Skips estimate for how many we would need.

Some thoughts:

  • Probably don't need to move things outside – just move stuff to the center of the room.
  • Curtains can be cleaned in a washing machine – this can also be done before or after.
  • the floor mats can be hosed off and brushed with a push broom, then hang dry. Steam cleaner probably only needed for actual carpet (changing room only?).
  • One floor mat is very worn – maybe that can be replaced?
  • Is the plywood intended to reaplce the drywall on the front wall? If so, what about the mud, tape, and texture where the plywood meets the drywall?
  • Two people hanging plywood would be sufficient.
  • 2 or 3 shop vacs were very useful last time.
  • Maybe we can also consider rearranging the furniture.
  • Hopefully we can get rid of anything that has not been used in the last year or two… like cleaning your closet. Less junk hanging around would make it less cluttered.
  • Any ideas on paint colors? Adding some color would be nice. A suggestion from years ago was to add a color stripe around the room.

<edit> Hey, where did my bulleted list go? Much easier to read when it's formatted… </edit>

Great ideas!

It also occured to me that I had forgotten to list any of the tools we need for the demo.
